To reduce mining waste, RCC uses overburden rock to construct access roads and other engineering structures at industrial sites. To reduce dust, dusty surfaces are regularly moistened, dust suppression measures are used during drilling and blasting operations, and dumps are covered with a fertile layer of soil and landscaped. Covered conveyors are used to transport ore. To reduce atmospheric emissions, pit machinery is equipped with fuel afterburning systems and converted to more environmentally friendly gas engine fuel.
Today, the processing facilities of RCC are the most efficient in the CIS.
RCC uses modern, safe reagents for ore beneficiation. To reduce the consumption of water resources from external sources, the enterprises have implemented a closed water cycle using pit, underspoil, storm and utility and sanitary wastewater without discharge into natural water bodies. Aspiration equipment is used to remove dust from production facilities.
To remove impurities, molten blister copper additionally passes through converters. The melt so purified is poured into flat moulds to produce copper anodes with copper content of 99.6%. To obtain pure cathode copper, which is traded on the world commodity market, copper anodes are subjected to electrowinning.
To reduce atmospheric emissions at RCC metallurgical plants, modern high-performance gas cleaning and metallurgical gas utilization systems are used. To reduce the volume of waste generated by existing production, metallurgical slag is processed to produce copper concentrate, which is remelted, as well as sand, which is used to produce construction materials.
Copper is one of the basic metals in many industries, including construction, energy, automotive and mechanical engineering, microprocessor and electronics manufacturing.
Over the past 20 years, global copper consumption has doubled, and further growth of the demand for the metal is expected.
