The sole production in Russia will completely replace the import of high-tech material for the production of electronics and lithium-ion batteries
The first samples of electrolytic copper foil were obtained at the Kyshtym Copper Electrolyte Plant (KMEZ JSC, Kyshtym town, Chelyabinsk Region, part of the Russian Copper Company Group). During the commissioning work in the new copper foil electrolysis shop at KMEZ, the 8 meters of 35 micron thick foil were produced. The production line of the shop allows to produce the foil of the most demanded types - with a thickness of 9 to 105 microns according to international standards IPC-4562. These products are used in the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries for electric cars, as well as printed circuit boards for electronics and instrumentation - from smartphones and household appliances to aircraft construction.
Andrey Kudryavtsev, General Director of KMEZ JSC: «Until now, such foil has not been produced in Russia. The capacity of the workshop is 1.2 thousand tons of foil per year. This volume will be enough to fully meet the needs of domestic manufacturers of high-tech electronics and supply foil abroad».
The construction of a new copper foil electrolysis workshop at KMEZ JSC began in 2018. The workshop is equipped with the most modern equipment from leading manufacturers from Europe and Asia. Investments in the project exceed 3 billion rubles.
Kyshtym Copper Electrolyte Plant JSC is one of the historical centers of Russian metallurgy. Founded in 1757. It joined the RCC Group in 2004. Since that moment, the enterprise has implemented a large-scale program of radical renovation of production facilities - copper smelting production, electrolysis shops and copper rod production. The production capacity is 140 thousand tons of copper cathodes and 140 thousand tons of copper rod per year.
