RCC to create the only facility in Russia to produce electrolytic copper foil
The new facility will fully cover the current domestic demand for electrolytic copper foil.
The Russian Copper Company plans to launch a workshop to produce electrolytic copper foil at the Kyshtym Copper Electrolytic Plant (Kyshtym, Chelyabinsk Region, part of the RCC Group). This was announced by RCC on July 9, 2018 during the 9th International Industrial Trade Fair INNOPROM that took place in Ekaterinburg.
The capacity of the future facilities will be 1000 tonnes of electrolytic copper foil per year, with the option to increase the volume depending on the market demand. 3 billion rubles are planned to be invested in the project. Pre-commissioning operations on the equipment in the new workshop are planned for summer 2019. The facility will reach its projected capacity in 2020.
Vsevolod Levin, President of RCC commented: “The primary goal in the production of copper foil at the Kyshtym Copper Electrolytic Plant is to cover the demand on the Russian market. Looking ahead, we are considering the possibility of supplying this high-tech and high added-value product to markets in Europe and Asia".
Kyshtym Copper Electrolytic Plant will produce electrolytic copper foil with a thickness of 9 to 105 microns, in accordance with the international standard IPC-4562. The foil will be shipped in rolls with a width of 200 to 1340 mm.
Electrolytic copper foil is widely used in modern high-tech production to manufacture printed circuit boards of any complexity for electronics and instrument manufacture (from smartphones and household appliances to armament control systems and aircraft construction), and also for producing lithium-ion batteries.
Andrey Kudryavtsev, CEO of Kyshtym Copper Electrolytic Plant: “We are starting production from the very beginning, based on the most advanced technological solutions and the equipment of world leaders. We can therefore be confident that our products will be competitive on both the domestic and foreign markets. The project will enable us to create an additional 100 high-tech jobs at the plant.”
The Russian Copper Company is a diversified vertically integrated holding uniting more than 30 facilities. The production assets of the RCC Group are located in Chelyabinsk Region, Sverdlovsk Region, Orenburg Region, Novgorod Region, and also the Republic of Kazakhstan. RCC’s mining and metallurgical assets encompass the full production cycle – from mining and processing of ore to production and sales of copper concentrate, copper cathodes and copper rods, and also zinc concentrate, and refined gold and silver. RCC’s production facilities are able to produce more than 220,000 tons of copper cathodes and 235,000 tons of copper rods per year. Since 2004, RCC has invested approximately 3.5 billion US dollars in Russia, and approximately 885 million US dollars in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
