RCC joined the National ESG Alliance

The Alliance will deal with “green” transformation tasks

Maxim Shchibrik, the Russian Copper Company (RCC JSC) Vice-President for Finance, was elected to the ESG-Alliance Supervisory Board. The Board is the main governing body of the Alliance, consisting of 28 parent companies’ representatives.

The mission of the Alliance is to promote the transition to a sustainable economic development model that ensures nature preservation, social well-being and long-term prosperity for business within the existing natural resources limits, based on the interests, cooperation and partnership of all parties involved.

Maxim Shchibrik, Vice-President for Finance, comments: «Following the ESG principles is a global trend for responsible investment. Respect for the environment, social responsibility and high-quality corporate governance are our priorities that lie at the core of the RCC Group’s sustainable development strategy. We have extensive experience and profound expertise in all aspects of our business, starting from ore mining and processing and ending with end product manufacturing and waste management. With the country’s largest companies uniting their efforts within the framework of the Alliance, we will be able to attract resources and experience not only from within the organization, but also from international partners, which will assist ESG transformation on the way to sustainable development in Russia».

The national ESG Alliance was launched on December 1, 2021 at a conference organized by Sberbank. The initiative was supported by the leading Russian companies with a total revenue of more than 10 trillion roubles and employing over 1.5 million people.

The Alliance members plan to create a permanent discussion platform to engage all stakeholders and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience between various business sectors, the state and society, as well as develop and promote new norms and standards in the field of ESG, and support investment for breakthrough projects focused on “green” transformation.

An autonomous non-profit organization will be created to manage the activities of the Alliance under the legal name of «National Alliance for Social and Environmental Responsibility, Corporate Governance and Sustainable Development» (short Russian version ANO, English version – ESG-Alliance).

The founders approved Andrey Sharonov, who had previously headed the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management for several years, for the post of the organisation’s General Director.

It was determined that the partnership will be open and other companies will be able to join it in future. The amount of joining fees and the payment procedure were also determined. Instructions were given to complete the state registration of the Alliance in the near future and begin activities.
