The official ceremony of commissioning of the Mikheevsky Ore Mining and Processing Plant (Varnensky District, Chelyabinsk Region) – the largest investment project of Russian Copper Company–– took place on December 17. The foundation of the Mikheevsky Ore Mining and Processing Plant was laid on May 29, 2012. The construction was performed in strict compliance with the schedule.
The button launching the semi-autogenous grinding mills was pressed by Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Mikhail Yurevich and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Russian Copper Company Igor Altushkin.

The launched production mills supplied by Metso Minerals process 2,800 tons of copper ore per hour. The capacity of the concentrating mill is nearly 18 million tons of copper ore per year (up to 63 thousand tons of copper in copper concentrate per year).
The semi-autogenous grinding mills are up and running.
The Mikheevsky porphyry-copper deposit is one of the largest copper deposits in Russia: the international independent analytical and consulting Group CRU put it on the list of the 50 largest copper deposits in the world. The Mikheevsky Ore Mining and Processing Plant is a project of federal importance: it is the most large-scale project in Russia's contemporary history that involves the construction of an ore mining and processing plant from scratch in the post-Soviet space. The total budget of the project amounts to approximately 27 billion rubles.
As part of the working meeting that took place on May 21, 2013, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Mikhail Yurevich discussed the project as one of the largest in the country's mining industry.
After the official ceremony, the enterprise will start commissioning and start-up of all the equipment – adjustment of the operation of the grinding mills, pumps, hydrocyclones, flotators, selection of best parameters, monitoring of automatic machinery operability, etc.
“The official ceremony is over, the champagne has been drunk, but we still have a long way to go. We have reached the stage of mechanical availability, the next stage is technology adjustment so as to activate the target operating mode of the equipment,” commented President Vsevolod Levin.
After the commissioning, both enterprises – the Mikheevsky and Tominsky Ore Mining and Processing Plants will be integrated into the processing chain of the Russian Copper Company comprising a complete production cycle from mining operations to manufacturing end products, copper cathodes and wire rod. That would make it possible to implement the long-term development program, subject to which the company is focused on a substantial increase in its production capacities: up to 350–370 thousand tons of copper cathode equivalent by 2015–2016.
More than 500 jobs are being created as part of the project (not counting the contractors' staff). The estimated amount of tax payments and levies during the project implementation period will total nearly 28 billion rubles. Russian Copper Company is already the largest taxpayer of the Chelyabinsk Region: in the 11 months of this year, the amount of payment to budgets of various levels was over 1.7 billion rubles.
